In parallel with the stakeholder mapping work, the ICEAR project has participated in the More from Less – Ostrobothnia Circular Economy Day 2026 in Vaasa, which gathered actors from all over Ostrobothnia. The event combined seminars, panel discussions and interactive workshops focusing on how circular solutions can be put into practice and create both business benefits and reduced environmental impact.
During the mini-fair, the ICEAR project managers had the opportunity to highlight the ongoing development work in the Jakobstad region linked to climate and sustainability – and at the same time make new contacts. It was highly valuable to initiate a dialogue with other participants, especially about how the public sector works to implement circular solutions in practice.
We need a break from conventional or “biased” thinking
Participation provided valuable perspectives: the transition is not only about strategies and analyses, but also about learning, exchange of experience and collaboration across organisational boundaries.
Working with development, and especially in climate and circular economy, is very much about daring to be uncomfortable and think differently. It is no longer enough to “think outside the box” as one of the keynote speakers during the seminar mentioned, but you have to try to get rid of the box (frames) to begin with.
We in the Jakobstad region have many talented entrepreneurs and innovators, how could we find common development tracks for climate work in the region that benefit both actors and society? It bears thinking about. We at the Jakobstad Region Development Company Concordia are interested in hearing your ideas.
